Local 1102 Members Win Day Care Grant
Currently there is grant money available for child care subsidies for members who live or work in certain zip codes. This grant money is designed to help Union members by raising the income eligibility. At present there are three Local 1102 members receiving the subsidy. If you live or within the zip codes listed above and are income eligible, please contact Lauri at 516-683-1102 ext 129. It seems too good to be true, but it is not. Martha Jovel, Flying Foods JFK, has 1 child was paying $130 per week and is now paying $51 per week. That is a savings of $79 per week! “The savings is helping to pay rent and other bills. It is helping a lot.” says Martha.
Nakia Bouyer, NYU, has one child. Nakia was paying $140 and now pays $17 per week. That is a saving of $123 per week! “The Union has helped me tremendously. Almost my whole paycheck was going to childcare and now even though I have worries, I don’t have to worry about my daughter being in a quality daycare. If it wasn’t for Local 1102, I would not be able to participate in all the programs that help me.” declares Nakia.
Flor Bravo, Flying Foods JFK, has 2 children was paying $180 per week and once the subsidy begins will be paying $44 per week. That is a savings of $136 per week! Per Flor, “I am very appreciative to the Union for getting me this help.”
