Local 1102 Member Wins the Alvin E. Heaps Scholarship Local 1102 member, Kristin Mazurkowski wins the Alvin E Heaps Scholarship. All scholarship applicants were asked to write an essay answering the following question: In what ways do you think Unions Benefit workers? Why do you think working people should continue to seek union representation as a way to better their lives? Kristin wrote a very compelling essay explaining that for most of her life, she never had any health or dental insurance until she started working at NY & Co. She states, “Going to college full-time and working to pay my own way is stressful and challenging. Having this insurance gives me a great sense of security, and I feel so lucky to have such great benefits from a part-time job.” Her essay concluded by stating” I cannot express enough how beneficial labor unions are to working individuals. RWDSU Local 1102 has done a fine job representing my fellow union workers and I, and appreciates our hard work. Union representation ensures working people security in this time of economic uncertainty with benefits and higher wages, and will continue to support the hard work and dedication of its members.” Kristen started working at NY & Co. while attending Adelphi University full-time and is due to receive her masters degree in Psychology and Human Resource Management this summer. Congratulations for your success and an essay well written. |
